INSTRUMENT RATING RESTRICTED

The Instrument Rating Restricted (formally IMC rating) is an additional rating and can be attached to a UK CAA Pilot's licence. The rating allows the holder to fly in instrument metrological conditions (in cloud) in UK airspace up to and including class D. The holder is also allowed to fly instrument approaches in visibility down to 1800 meters.

The course is a minimum of 15 hours flying training and 10 hours of ground school, there is also a multiple choice exam and a flight test once the course has been completed. All of the training and testing is done by us. The course comprises of approximately five hours of basic instrument flying techniques, full panel, ltd. panel and recovery from unusual attitudes.

Five hours of radio navigation including the use of Very High Frequency Omni Directional Radio Range beacons (VORs), Non-directional Beacons (NDBs), Global Positioning System (GPS) as required.  Five hours of instrument approaches, you are required to fly two different approaches to test standard, these can include, Surveillance radar approach (SRA), Non-directional Beacons (NDBs), Global Positioning System (GPS) and Instrument Landing System (ILS).
