The Private Pilots Licence

Learn To Fly !

the hangerBlackpool Airport is well located with excellent rail and motorway links, furthermore the coastal location usually ensures better flying weather than inland airports. Blackpool Airport, unlike many other airfields in the same class, is situated out of controlled airspace which means training can begin from take-off to touchdown with no positioning (so no extra cost).

Blackpool has three tarmac runways, full air traffic services with Radar/ILS/NDB/DME (navigational aids), and customs, all the requirements for the private pilot in good or bad weather.

The Private Pilots Licence (PPL)

The cost of learning to fly is one of the main deciding factors for most people. We offer excellent value for money and training to suit your pocket.

We operate Piper Cherokees which are four seater, low wing aircraft and we consider these to be the ideal training aircraft.

You must complete an approved course of training in order to obtain your PPL. You can fly as often as you like i.e. fortnightly or monthly but ideally you should fly once a week. The total time taken to complete the course depends on factors such as the time that you have available and the continuity of the lessons. The requirement is a minimum of 45 hours flying time and it is possible to complete the course in a matter of a few months!

In addition, it is necessary to sit a series of exams on aviation related subjects and these subjects will be discussed in your pre-flight briefing. The exams are taken in-house. You will take one exam at a time and only when you are confident about doing so. Your instructor will always help you with any difficulties in this area.

There are no upper or lower age limits on learning to fly but you must be 16 years of age before you can fly 'solo' and 17 years of age before your licence can be issued.

We are a dedicated flying training school and we are open 7 days a week. Furthermore, we are an approved aircraft maintenance organisation and maintain our own aircraft to the required 'Public Transport' standards. We have a licensed bar that is open to members and their guests and we endeavour to make the acquisition of you PPL as easy and enjoyable as possible.

On completion of the PPL we offer self-fly hire of our aircraft and we can provide additional training to allow the Private Pilot to fly on instruments for use in less than ideal weather conditions - the Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC) rating - and at night - the night qualification.

We offer, at any time to suit you, a trial lesson which is a full 'hands on' experience and which can be logged as part of your course if you wish to continue training.

I hope that this information answers the questions that you may have with regard to PPL training but if you require any further information please ring us. We are here 7 days per week and we are open from 09.00hrs - till late per day.
